3. Local food

What would Spanish culture be without its delicious local food? We ask ourselves!

The Costa Blanca, like the rest of Spain, is famous for its rich and tasty Mediterranean recipes.

If you love Spanish cuisine, you’ll be familiar with paella, and there is more than one paella.

Yes, it’s important to know that paella is not prepared in the same way in every region.

So, if you’re a paella lover, you’ll be delighted to move to the Costa Blanca, where your favorite paella is prepared with the greatest care.

Of course, Spanish cuisine is rich and varied, and not just based on paella.

Among the most popular dishes are delicious gazpacho, fried squid, patatas bravas, fideuà, tapas, tortilla with truffles or the famous croquettes with cheese and jamón ibérico.

If you like sweeter flavors, you’ll love Spanish nougat, called Turron, made with almonds, honey and egg whites.

It whets your appetite, doesn’t it?

4. Culture

You can’t talk about Spain without mentioning the hospitality of the Spanish people.

Very close to their families and those around them in general, Spaniards are very friendly and warm. Sharing is a value rooted in their culture, which is why you’ll often find dishes to share on restaurant menus. Spain is a welcoming country, where you immediately feel welcome.

The people of the Costa Blanca are also fond of festivals and traditions. Religious holidays are highly appreciated and celebrated, as is the case during Semana Santa. For this occasion, Spaniards like to organize parades in traditional costumes and processions with floats for various artistic performances.

Another very important festival for the locals is the Hogueras. This celebration takes place at the end of June and lasts about a week. During this festival, you can admire float parades, bonfires and incredible fireworks.

Then there’s las Fallas, an event that takes place in the Valencian Community in March and lasts for several days. During the Fallas, sculptures made of “carton piedra”, a technique similar to “papier-mâché”, are installed in the streets of the city. These sculptures represent scenes from current political or social events. A prize-giving ceremony follows, and the festivities end with the cremation of the various sculptures and a fireworks display.

Needless to say, the Costa Blanca is a very lively region!

If you like artistic events, you’ll be delighted to explore Alicante’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

And if you’re more into tradition and history, you’ll love visiting the Basilica of Santa María in Elche, the Castle of Santa Bárbara in Alicante or the Episcopal Palace in Orihuela.

5. Weather

It’s undeniably appealing.

According to a study carried out by Holidu, a British vacation rental platform, Alicante is the sunniest city in Europe.

“It’s official: Alicante is the sunniest city in Europe! With an average of 349 hours of sunshine per month, Alicante is the ideal destination for sun-seeking travelers.”

-Holidu

Winters are mild, and although there are occasional periods of rain, they are very short and the sun returns very quickly. During this period, temperatures drop a little and generally oscillate between 10 and 20°C.

As soon as spring returns, temperatures rise to around 20°C.

Summers, meanwhile, are very hot, and high temperatures usually continue into autumn.

As you can see, when you buy a house on the Costa Blanca, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation, whatever the time of year!

6. Health benefits

Living on the Costa Blanca is not only mentally pleasant, it’s also physically beneficial.

And the Mediterranean diet has a lot to do with it.

As well as being delicious, this diet is very varied, containing lots of vegetables, fish, olive oil and seafood, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The climate is also beneficial to health, since regular exposure to the sun increases vitamin D production. This vitamin enhances calcium absorption and thus bone health in general. Vitamin D also boosts the immune system.

The iodine present in the air, thanks to Torrevieja’s proximity to the sea and salt mines, helps keep the thyroid in good working order.

But that’s not all.

Sea air contains negative ions which, once in our bodies, act as antioxidants. They neutralize free radicals and reduce inflammation, thus preventing respiratory illnesses such as asthma and certain allergies.

Fine weather is also an invitation to get active outdoors, whether for hiking, water sports or a stroll on the beach. And as we know only too well, physical activity is excellent for your health.
